Off-the-shelf tools get a business started, but sooner or later the workarounds pile up: spreadsheets passed between teams, the same data typed into three systems, and processes that only one person really understands. Custom software replaces those workarounds with a system built around the way your business actually works.
HBK Software designs and builds bespoke software for businesses in Liverpool and across the UK. We take an idea or a messy process, turn it into a clear plan, and deliver working software in small, regular steps, so you can see progress and change direction before it becomes expensive.
Most of our custom projects are built with Laravel and PHP on the back end, with React, Vue or Next.js where a richer interface is needed, and Flutter when the system also needs a mobile app. Everything is deployed to the cloud with automated pipelines, which keeps updates routine rather than risky.
Custom software makes sense when the way you work is part of what makes your business good, when off-the-shelf products force you to change that, or when licence costs keep growing with every new user.
It is not always the answer. If an existing product already does most of what you need, we will say so and help you set it up or integrate it instead. A short conversation is usually enough to tell which route will serve you better.
It depends on the scope: how many types of user there are, how many screens and integrations, and how complex the business rules are. After a short discovery call we give you a written estimate for a clearly defined first version. We would rather start small and extend than quote for everything at once.
That also depends on scope. We plan the work in milestones so that a usable first version arrives as early as possible, and further features follow in regular releases instead of one big launch at the end.
Yes. Most projects connect to something that already exists, such as accounting software, a CRM, a payment provider or an older database. We integrate through APIs where they exist and plan a careful data migration where they do not.
Often, yes, particularly Laravel and PHP applications. We start with a code review to understand the state of the project, then agree with you whether to maintain it, improve it step by step or gradually replace it.
Yes. We can look after hosting, updates, security patches and monitoring, and keep improving the software as your business changes.
No. We are based in Liverpool and work with businesses across the UK, using video calls and shared progress updates to keep everyone in the loop.
